The First 24 Hours — Protect the Fresh Work

When you leave Honor and Ink™, your tattoo will be wrapped for protection.

That wrap isn’t decoration — it’s a shield against bacteria, dirt, and irritation.

Keep it on for the time your artist recommends. We’ll let you know whether to leave it on for a few hours or overnight, depending on the type of wrap and the tattoo’s placement.

Once it’s time to remove it, wash your hands first, then clean the tattoo gently with warm water and fragrance-free antibacterial soap.

Pat dry with a clean towel — don’t rub.

At this stage, your tattoo is technically an open wound. Treat it like one.

2. The First Few Days — Clean, Breathe, and Moisturize

For the next 3–5 days:

Wash your tattoo gently twice a day.

Apply a thin layer of fragrance-free, artist-approved ointment (like Aquaphor or Hustle Butter).

Keep it moisturized, but not smothered — too much ointment can clog pores and slow healing.

Avoid direct sunlight, swimming, saunas, or long hot showers.

Your tattoo needs air to breathe and heal naturally.

3. The Peeling and Itching Phase — Don’t Pick, Don’t Scratch

Around day 5 to 10, your tattoo will start to peel and itch. This is totally normal — your skin is regenerating.

It might look dull or flaky for a bit, but don’t panic. The color and vibrancy will return once the new skin settles in.

The rule here is simple: no picking, scratching, or peeling.

Let nature do its thing — your job is to keep it clean and lightly moisturized.

4. Long-Term Care — Keep Your Ink Strong

Once healed, your tattoo becomes part of you — but it still needs care.

Sun protection is everything. UV rays fade ink faster than anything else. Use SPF 30+ or greater when outdoors.

Stay hydrated and healthy. Your skin reflects your overall wellness.

Moisturize regularly. Healthy skin = vibrant ink.

If your tattoo ever needs a small touch-up, come back in. We stand behind our work and want every piece we do to look its best for life.

5. Flash and Permanence — The Art That Stays Bright

Today’s Artist Hour subject was a traditional whale, and the Inktober theme was “blast.”

Both remind me of the balance between power and patience — the bold impact of flash art that feels like a home run blast, and the enduring grace of a whale’s journey.

The crack of the bat as the hitter blasts a home run

A tattoo’s first flash of brilliance — when it’s fresh, new, and shining — is unforgettable. The Long View — This Is a Collaboration

A tattoo’s beauty depends on both artist and client.

We create it — you protect it.

That partnership, that trust, is what keeps your tattoo (and our reputation) looking its best for decades.

Your care after the session is just as important as the precision we put in during it. Together, we make sure your art not only heals cleanly, but lives vividly.

Next Up:

In our next post, we’ll dive into Tattoo Design — From Concept to Skin, breaking down how ideas evolve from rough sketches to fully realized tattoos.

We’ll talk about collaboration, composition, and how your story shapes the art you wear.

Honor your art. Respect the process. Protect your story.

That’s the Honor and Ink™ way.

A tattoo’s first flash of brilliance — when it’s fresh, new, and shining — is unforgettable.
