Once we start building our legacy to carry it forward, we begin to realize something important \u2014 we\u2019re not carrying it alone. If we are lucky, every lesson, every victory, every mistake gets shared, shaped, and refined through the people around us. \u00a0To me this is a true blessing.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n

That\u2019s what community really is \u2014 the collective force that turns our individual stories into something bigger.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n

Today\u2019s Inktober prompt was blunder. At first I had trouble coming up with anything, so I started\u00a0<\/span>looking through my old sketches, and I saw a heart.\u00a0<\/span>I couldn\u2019t help but laugh at how perfect it fit. I drew the heart with multiple names scratched out \u2014 the classic tattoo artist inside joke. We\u2019ve all seen it, and it never gets old. It\u2019s a reminder that even our missteps connect us.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\r\n Everyone\u2019s made choices that didn\u2019t age well, but at least in our world, we can laugh about it, learn from it, and cover it with something better. That\u2019s what good communities do \u2014 they give us space to grow, to fail, to laugh at ourselves, and to keep moving forward together.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Today\u2019s Artist Hour subject was a panther and python locked in battle, surrounded by palms and hibiscus \u2014 a nod to my time in Hawaii. The panther and python represent tension and balance, power and patience. It\u2019s a fight, but it\u2019s also a dance \u2014 each shaping the other through resistance.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n That\u2019s how community works too. It\u2019s not about everyone being the same or seeing things the same way. It\u2019s about the friction that keeps us sharp, the respect that keeps us grounded, and the shared purpose that keeps us pushing forward.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Tattooing has its own kind of tribe \u2014 artists who share ideas, trade techniques, and still compete with fire in their guts. It\u2019s not a rivalry born from ego, but from drive. We challenge each other to go bigger, bolder, cleaner \u2014 to raise the standard not just for ourselves, but for the craft.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n And beyond the studio walls, there\u2019s the community of veterans, first responders, and those who\u2019ve walked similar roads. The people who understand sacrifice, endurance, and the weight of responsibility. That\u2019s a bond that doesn\u2019t fade \u2014 it just finds new forms.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n For me, it\u2019s found new life through art. Each tattoo I do for a vet, a firefighter, a medic \u2014 that\u2019s connection, purpose, and legacy all coming full circle.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n The palms and hibiscus in the artist hour sketch remind me that community, like nature, thrives in balance \u2014 strength rooted in connection, beauty shaped by resilience.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n Community is where legacy grows legs.
